Colin Kaepernick is bringing his story to the small screen with the help of none other than the Walt Disney Company!

As People reports, Disney revealed on Monday that they've teamed up with Kaepernick and his production company, Ra Vision Media, as part of a new initiative that aims to bring voices of colour to the forefront.

Kaepernick will share "culturally impactful and inspiring" projects

Kaepernick and Disney's historic deal was initially reported by Variety, as People mentions. The outlet reports that Disney has expressed a commitment to elevate voices of creatives of colour across its many platforms, which include Walt Disney Television, ESPN, Hulu, Pixar, and ESPN's The Undefeated.

"I am excited for this partnership with Disney across all of its platforms to elevate Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers & producers," Kaepernick tweeted on Monday. "I look forward to sharing culturally impactful and inspiring projects."

Kaepernick's docuseries to contain interviews and new footage 

Kaepernick's as-of-now-untitled docuseries will be developed by ESPN Films, and chronicle the last few years of his life. As People mentions, the project is set to be produced by journalist Jemele Hill, who used to work for ESPN, and executive produced by ESPN execs Libby Geist, Kevin Merida, and Connor Schell.

"Colin has had a singular path as both an athlete and an activist, and, as the nation continues to confront racism and social injustice, it feels particularly relevant to hear Colin’s voice on his evolution and motivations,” ESPN president Jimmy Piatro explained in a statement to Variety.

Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay creating scripted limited series

Kaepernick's docuseries isn't the only project about the former athlete that's currently in the works! As People mentions, Kaepernick has also teamed up with director Ava DuVernay for a new scripted series called Colin in Black & White, which will be placing focus on his high school years.

The six-episode series was originally conceived back in 2020, and will "provide an introspective look at Kaepernick's life," according to People. Following Kaepernick from his growing up as a Black adopted kid in a white family through his journey of becoming a star NFL player, Colin in Black & White will be "lending meaningful insight into the acts and experiences" formative to Kaepernick's activism. Kaepernick will also be providing narration for the series.
